🎀 Questions And Answers from Lesson 5⃣1⃣ to 5⃣5⃣ of Seerah of Muhammad (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) 🎀
1⃣ What was Umar determined to do after he accepted Islam❓
💝 Now that he was Muslim, he was determined to announce his faith to the Prophet’s (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) foes.
2⃣ Whom did Umar inform about his accepting the religion of Allah❓
💝 First, Umar knocked on Abu Jahl’s door and informed him. Umar afterwards went to Asi bin Hashim, who hurried back into his house once he heard the news. Umar’s next stop was at the house of Jameel bin Mu’ammar Jami, who was noted for spreading sensational news.
3⃣ Why was Umar known as “Farooq”❓
💝 So far the Muslims had always prayed in secret. Umar however, felt that the time had come for Muslims to practise their faith in full view of their enemies. So the Muslims formed two rows behind the Prophet (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) and walked to the Ka’bah, one row headed by Hamzah, the other by Umar. From that day onward Umar was known as “Farooq” one who distinguishes truth from falsehood.
4⃣ What did Ibn Mas’ud say about Umar❓
💝 Ibn Mas’ud, one of the Prophet’s (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) Companions, said, ‘The day Umar accepted Islam, we gained both strength and prestige.” He also said, “We could not perform our prayers at the Ka’bah until Umar embraced Islam.”
5⃣ What did the Makkans decide to do when their power was collapsing❓Who was chosen for their task❓
💝 The Makkan pagans decided it was time to hold talks on the growing strength of Islam. Utbah bin Rabi’a, a member of Banu Abd Shams told: 👉🏻 “O people of Quraysh, shall I not talk to Muhammad and bargain with him? Perhaps he will accept my offer, in which case we will be rid of him.” The council approved, and Utbah was charged with approaching the Prophet (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) with an offer no ordinary man could refuse.
6⃣ What offer did Utbah make to the Prophet Muhammad (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam)❓
💝 Utbah told: 👉🏻 “My nephew, if it is wealth you hope to obtain by your preaching, we will collect enough for you so that you will be the richest among us. If it is honor you desire, we will make you our chief and leave every decision to you. If you wish to be king, we will recognize you as our monarch. If you desire beautiful women, choose any woman from the Quraysh—we will give you ten such women in marriage. And if you are possessed by a demon, we will find a skilled physician for you and spend all that it takes to restore your health.”
7⃣ Which Surah did the Prophet (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) recite to Utbah❓How did Utbah react❓
💝 The Prophet (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) recited the opening ayaah of Surah Fussilat and then came to the following ayah:
👉🏻 “And if they turn away, then say: I have warned you of a thunderbolt like the thunderbolt that struck ‘Aad and Thamuud.” Utbah put his hand on Muhammad’s (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) mouth and pleaded with him not to bring about such a terrible punishment.
8⃣ What did Utbah inform to his comrades after his conversation with the Prophet (salAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam)❓
💝 Utbah said: 👉🏻 “I have heard a discourse the like of which I have never heard. I swear to God, O Quraysh, that it is not poetry, nor is it the result of spells or witchcraft. Take my advice and leave this man alone. By God, something more astonishing is bound to happen than what I have heard.
9⃣ What suggestion did the Makkans give the Prophet (salAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam)❓
💝 They suggested: 👉🏻 “You worship our gods for one year,” they explained, “and we worship your God for one year. That way, if our religion is true, you will have a share of the reward, and if your religion is true, we will have a share.”
🔟 Which Surah was revealed in response to the suggestion given by the Makkans❓How did the Makkans react❓
💝 In reply to this suggestion from the Quraysh, Surah Al-Kaafiroon (The Unbelievers) was
revealed. The Makkans, however, still believed that they could bargain with the Prophet (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam). They said: 👉🏻 “Bring another Qur’an in place of this one,” or make some changes in the present one.”
1⃣1⃣ What did the Makkans do when Prophet (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) was not prepared to compromise❓Whom did they consult❓
💝 The decided to find out whether he was an actual prophet or just imagined himself to be one. In order to find out how to test Muhammad (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) the Makkans sought guidance from some Jewish rabbis.
1⃣2⃣ What were the 3 questions that the learned Jewish rabbis told the Makkans to ask Muhammad (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam)❓
💝 First, the rabbis told the Makkans to ask Muhammad (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) the incredible story in their scriptures about some youths. The second question concerned a person who had traveled throughout both the East and the West. Thirdly, they instructed the Makkans to ask about the soul.
1⃣3⃣ Which Surah was revealed in response to the 3 questions asked by the Makkans❓
💝 Surah Al-Kahf (The Cave) was revealed in response. The Surah tells the story of a few young boys who, upon being persecuted by polytheists, sought refuge in a cave. The Surah also tells the story of Dhul Qarnain, the man who roamed throughout the world. Finally, the last question was answered in Surah Al-Israa: 📖 ‘They ask you about the spirit. Say: The spirit is My Lord’s affair, and man has been given but little knowledge”’ 📌 (17: 85)
1⃣4⃣ What solution did the Makkans believe when they were still not prepared to embrace Islam❓
🌺 The solution, they believed, was to ask the Prophet (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam) to let them enter Islam not as typical Muslims, but as Muslims with special status as the majority of the Prophet’s (SalAllahu alaihi wa sallam) followers being from the lower strata of Makkan society, the elite of the Quraysh could not consider interacting with their inferiors on equal terms.
1⃣5⃣ What did Abu Taalib fear and what measures did he take❓
💝 Abu Taalib had a deep sensation of fear over his nephew. The polytheists had laid a carefully-studied plan to kill the Prophet (SalAllahu ‘alaihi wa sallam). He, therefore, assembled his kinsfolk of Bani Hashim and Bani Al-Muttalib, sons of ‘Abd Munaf and exhorted them to immunize and defend his nephew. All of them, whether believers or disbelievers, responded positively except his brother Abu Lahab, who sided with the idolaters.
